In Sarai Kale Khan area, a girl was brutally gang-raped by three different people and then thrown on the side of the road as if she were an inanimate object to die. But after 21 days of hard work, the Delhi Police finally exposed the case and the three accused were nabbed. Which includes a scrap metal dealer, a beggar and a car driver. Let us tell you the sequential story of this terrible incident.
That was the intervening night of October 10 and 11, 2024. Darkness and silence reigned in the Sarai Kale Khan area of Delhi. The city that was normally bustling with activity was now quiet. Around midnight, Pramod, a scrap dealer who runs a small shop in central Delhi, was packing his goods. This was a daily task for him. But that night he drank too much alcohol. His legs were also shaking. He stumbled on the empty road and nearly fell. He was heading towards his house. Then his eyes landed on a woman. That lonely woman was sitting far away on the side of the road.
The woman wearing red kurta looked a little disturbed. Pramod watched him carefully from a distance and realized that his mental state was not good. As soon as he saw her, something began to stir inside him and under the effects of the alcohol that had consumed his body, he made a decision that turned that night into a nightmare. Pramod caught up with that woman, then lured her and took her to a nearby secluded place and started torturing her. He had pounced on that woman like a vulture.
At that moment another person arrived. It was Shamshul, a well-known beggar in the area. He had a reputation for always being drunk. That night also Shamshul was very drunk. His legs were weak and disabled. But seeing Pramod playing the game of lust with that woman, she got excited and at that moment she joined Pramod. Now they both took advantage of the woman’s weakness. They dragged him to a nearby deserted place. There they both took turns raping her. Both of them did not care about the woman’s problems and continued to destroy her dignity.
Meanwhile, as night fell, a driver named Prabhu Mahato was passing through that area in his rickshaw. He was also not conscious; He had been drinking alcohol all night. Suddenly when he saw two men with a woman in a deserted place, curiosity or perhaps some other reason forced him to stop there and look. What he saw there further increased his nefarious intentions. And he also shamelessly went there and got involved in bestiality game with Pramod and Shamshul and started playing with that woman’s body. The three gang-raped her.
But Prabhu Mahato did not stop here. He forced the woman to sit in his car. The woman was already shocked and weak, she had no strength left to protest. Prabhu took advantage of his condition and took the car to another deserted area under the cover of darkness. There he attacked the woman again and raped her. After this, Prabhu Mahato coldly turned the car towards Sarai Kale Khan and there he threw the woman on the roadside as if she were something to be thrown away and disappeared into the darkness of the night.
Around 3:15 pm, when there was silence in the city, a call came to the Delhi Police control room. The caller was a passerby passing through the area. He was an army officer. He called the police and reported that a woman was lying seriously injured on the roadside, wearing a red kurta and bleeding profusely.
As soon as this information was received, the police team reached the spot and a woman in red kurta was present there. Observing his condition, I could not understand anything clearly; But it was clear that she had been brutally attacked. At that time the woman was not in a position to tell what had happened to her, but from her few staccato words the police deduced that several people and an auto-rickshaw driver were responsible for her condition. To get justice for the victim, the police registered a case of gang rape at the Sunlight Colony police station and started investigating the case.
This case is from the South East District Police Area, the investigation of which was headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravi Kumar, who formed ten special teams to track down the criminals. Initial information was very limited, but an important clue came from the woman herself. He vaguely remembered that his attackers were three men, one of whom was a car driver. Based on this limited information, police began a thorough investigation of the area.
The first step was to check all possible CCTV cameras on the ring road within a radius of about 10 kilometers from Sarai Kale Khan. In the days that followed, police scanned footage from more than 700 CCTV cameras looking for clues to the suspects. During the investigation, they found around 150 autorickshaws that matched the description given by the woman.
The police team did the difficult job of tracking each of these car drivers. Police officers visited the home of each car driver seen in the footage, questioning neighbors and collecting background information. Days turned into weeks, but the investigation continued with unwavering dedication. Finally, about 21 days after the crime, the pieces began to fall into place. The police managed to identify not only the vehicle in question but also its driver, Prabhu Mahato.
After this breakthrough, the police nabbed Prabhu Mahato and then tracked down the other two accused – Pramod and Shamshul. All of them were immediately arrested and taken into custody for questioning. During interrogation, all three confessed to their crime. Pramod revealed how he had first seen the woman near his shop and in his drunken state had decided to take advantage of her weakness.
Shamshul, who reached the spot soon after, joined Pramod without hesitation, even though he was under the influence of alcohol. Both men admitted to dragging the woman to an isolated location, where they raped her. When Prabhu reached the spot, instead of helping the woman, he raped her and then took her in his car to an even more secluded place, where he again assaulted her and finally killed her in Sarai Kale Khan, abandoned almost on the roadside. .
This case shocked the entire city of Delhi, which once again highlighted the danger faced by women. The victim, originally from Odisha, had been living in Delhi for a few months and came to Delhi without informing her family. Despite his traumatic experience, he managed to give information to the police about the whereabouts of the accused, so the three accused were captured one by one.
The Delhi Police not only nabbed the three criminals but also seized the autorickshaw used in this incident. Therefore, important evidence has been obtained to provide justice to the victim. While a case has been registered against the three accused on serious charges including gang rape. The impact of the trauma suffered by the victim during this period will last for a long time.
