Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Mahesh Khinchi was elected the next mayor of Delhi on Thursday. This has given a big boost to the ruling party in the national capital ahead of the assembly elections due early next year. Khichi, a Dalit candidate fielded by the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, defeated Kishan Lal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a narrow margin of three votes. However, the election was tied as two votes were declared invalid.

Khinchi got 133 votes, while Lal got 130 votes. Two votes were declared invalid. Eight Congressional councilors did not participate in the voting process. In the elections, which were postponed from April due to the long war of words between AAP and BJP, the Congress boycotted the voting process and demanded a full term for the mayor instead of the current proposed term.

A total of 265 votes were cast during the mayoral election.

In fact, during the mayoral election a total of 265 votes were cast, of which two were declared invalid. During the elections there was also a great game. Because 10 AAP councilors cross-voted. In the elections, 132 votes were cast in favor of the Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP also got 132 votes, but two of them were declared invalid. On the other hand, after the performance of the Congress during the voting, a councilor Sabila Begum stopped and voted for the AAP, due to which the AAP got one more vote and its figure rose to 133. Thus, the BJP got 130 votes and the Aam Aadmi Party got 133 votes.

The AAP was already afraid of the cross vote

Let us tell you that the Aam Aadmi Party was already worried about cross-voting. In the district committee elections, the AAP had to face cross voting in three areas. Some of its councilors had voted for BJP candidates instead of party candidates. Their candidates were defeated in the South Zone. And now, by putting up a fair fight in the mayoral election, you got about 10 votes. However, the BJP could not benefit from this and the Aam Aadmi Party candidate won the election by 3 votes.

Who is the new mayor of the MCD?

Let us tell you that after former Social Welfare Minister Rajkumar Anand, Mahesh Khagi completed the Aam Aadmi Party’s search for a big Dalit face. Mahesh Khegi, councilor of Dev Nagar ward 84 of Karol Bagh assembly constituency, studied B.Com from Delhi University’s Motilal Nehru College. Mahesh Kumar, 45, from Dev Nagar neighborhood of Karol Bagh, calls himself a financial advisor by profession.
