Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said on Friday that this incident occurred two days ago. He said: “We had not given any order for its demolition. However, we had sent a team including the Sub-Collector to the spot to verify the facts regarding the shrine and ensure that law and order was maintained.

I welcome the demolition of the tomb – Swami Darshan Bharti

Bansal also said that he has asked for a report on this episode from his team. However, right-wing Hindu leader Swami Darshan Bharti said he had recently met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and officials and asked them to demolish the shrine inside the prestigious school. Bharti, who runs an organization called ‘Uttarakhand Raksha Abhiyan’, said, “Whoever did this, I appreciate the demolition of the grave.” Why should there be a grave inside a school and also inside ‘The Doon School’ which is famous throughout the country? This shows how far territorial jihad has gone within the state during the tenure of previous governments.

The school authorities had the grave repaired.

According to sources, the tomb was old and had been recently repaired by the school authorities. The Dhami State government had launched a vigorous campaign against illegal encroachment of government land in the name of Land Jihad or Mazar from 2022 under which 5,000 acres of government land have been freed from encroachment so far. The part of Doon School, where the tomb was built, is said to have once been owned by the Uttarakhand Waqf Board.

An official of the Waqf Board, who requested anonymity, said: “According to our records, 57 acres of land in that area were ours, but at present nothing is known about its status. The Board still has a large amount of land adjacent to ‘The'”. Doon’ School. When contacted, Uttarakhand Waqf board president Shadab Shams said he was aware of the demolition of the tomb located inside the Doon school. When asked if the land belonged to the Waqf Board, he said it could be known only after a detailed investigation by the administration. (with language inputs)
